Discover the primitive beauty of Drakes Estero, a remote and protected estuary within Point Reyes National Seashore. The estero is the only marine wilderness on the western side of the U.S and home to many species of birds, harbor seals, river otters, and more. This six-hour kayaking tour is moderate to strenuous, especially during the windy season. Come prepared to paddle hard at least some of the time. Your guide will take you deep into the heart of a thriving marine ecosystem—far from crowds and road noise—where tidal channels, wildlife, and panoramic landscapes and possibly ancient whale fossils offer a truly immersive coastal adventure.
Guests will be using stable, closed-deck tandem kayaks. This tour is ideal for those seeking solitude, natural wonder, and a deeper connection to California’s wild coastline.
Arrive 15 minutes early to get ready for your adventure. Parking is limited so come early!
Meet your guides, organize gear, and receive a safety briefing and basic kayaking instructions.
Get fitted with life jackets, paddles, and spray skirts before launching.
Launch into the calm waters of Schooner Bay and explore the estuary’s maze of tidal channels and coves. Enjoy multiple stops for photos, wildlife viewing, and interpretation from your guide.
Paddle back to the launch site, return gear, and take in the last moments of this peaceful, off-the-grid experience. You can continue to explore on your own!
