Bioluminescence means “light from life,” and is a blue glow caused by millions of single-celled plankton being jostled and excited by moving water. As each paddle stroke creates a splash of blue light and waves from your kayak ripple out in arcs of azure, you will know why our bioluminescent tours are a must-see when you visit the coast. You may see blue trails from fish darting through the eelgrass, or submerged bat rays, or bolt-like chains of sparks in algae mats. All this glowing activity is only visible at night when the sun and moon are both down. Accordingly, we have set up evening paddles which should afford some good viewing after sunset.Guides will explain the phenomenon in detail and provide interesting context of the natural and cultural history of the bay during your tour.
No experience needed. Great for first-timers and casual paddlers. We use stable double kayaks for a fun and easy introduction.
